Respondent Support Services

Overview

Respondent Services (RS) assists UCLA (and UCLA Health) students, staff and faculty "respondents" who have allegedly violated the UC Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH). RS provides a safe and supporting listening space and can assist in a variety of ways including:

  • Explaining the rights of a respondent.
  • Explaining and navigating the resolution, investigation and/or adjudication processes.
  • Answering questions related to the policies, procedures, and meeting preparation.
  • Providing accompaniments to investigation, adjudication, appeal, and other meetings.
  • Providing information about and making referrals to campus resources.
  • Assisting with logistical issues related to interim suspension or other interim actions or restrictions.
  • Assisting with securing an interpreter or translator.

There are many ways in which RS may be helpful to an individual accused of a SVSH policy violation. At times, respondents may need other resources that RS cannot provide such as legal advice and/or counseling services, which may be available elsewhere on campus. RS provides both one-time and on-going support to those who are interested in receiving such services.

Schedule a Consultation

Scheduling a consultation is simple using our self-service scheduling system! Access the system and schedule a consultation. The purpose of the initial consultation is to provide a better understanding of the policy, procedures, the respondent's rights (including privacy), and the services available to respondents. Furthermore, the initial consultation is an ideal time to ask questions. Keep in mind the respondent reserves the right to share (or more specifically not share) the specifics of the matter. As an independent resource, we are not privy to the specifics of any matter and are unable to address the nature of the specific allegations in any particular matter.

When scheduling an initial consultation, please be sure to select the appropriate "service" from the menu. For an initial consultation, the two service options are "Initial Consultation UCLA Staff or Faculty" or "Initial Consultation UCLA Student". All consultations (initial and follow-up) are free of charge.

Privacy Rights

Respondent Services isn't designated as a confidential resource, however, unless required by law or the University's Responsible Employee Mandate, conversations between a respondent and RS will remain private. It is important to note that RS does not receive any information about a respondent's matter from the University; the respondent decides what to share with RS. The respondent's privacy rights will be discussed at the initial meeting so that any questions the respondent may have can be answered.
